LIFE IS A PARADISE
On Christmas Eve was born not only Jesus Christ,
but also the famous Lithuanian artist Jonas Mekas (in 1922).
It was hardly surprising that on Lithuanian radio you could listen to Mekas
as he shared his thoughts about life on Christmas Eve.
Jonas Mekas: 'Life is a paradise! It's a paradise when it snows and when it rains... It's a paradise when you read a book and when you make the time for overall joy in your life. The life, it is the paradise that's constantly changing...'
Journalist: 'But the life is complicated too...'
Jonas Mekas: 'Pessimists say it. But I am a realist and know that everyone has their own way of happiness and of paradise...'

but it says the person who is celebrating his 95th birthday today!
Jonas Mekas is a world famous Lithuanian American filmmaker, poet and artist who has often been called 'the godfather of American avant-garde cinema.'
Jonas Mekas was born in Lithuania, where he lived 22 years.
In 1944, Mekas left Lithuania because of war. En route, his train was stopped in Germany, where he spent 5 years. From 1946 to 1948, Jonas Mekas studied philosophy at the University of Mainz, and at the end of 1949, he emigrated to the U.S., settling in New York. There he has lived all his life in the capital of Christmas. Jonas Mekas speaks Lithuanian still without accent.
Does it mean that he often returns home in his thoughts?

Am Heiligabend ist nicht nur Jesus Christus geboren,
sondern auch der berühmte litauische Künstler Jonas Mekas (1922). Nicht zufällig konnte man seine Gedanken im litauischen Radio
am Heiligabend hören:
Jonas Mekas: "Das Leben ist ein Paradies. Ein Paradies ist es, wenn es schneit und wenn es regnet... Ein Paradies ist, wenn man ein Buch liest oder etwas genießt... Das Leben, das ist ein Paradies, das sich zwar ständig ändert..."

Und Stimmung, viel paradiesische Stimmung atmen Weihnachtsbäume aus,

In Litauen beschäftigen sich damit professionelle Designer.
Der Schwerpunkt der litauischen Weihnachtsbäume liegt immer auf ihrem kreativen Ausdruck, abhängig von der städtischen Umgebung. In dieser Kreativität spiegelt sich der Geist der Stadt wider und
der muss nicht unbedingt vollkommen sein!
In Deutschland
ist es wichtig die Natürlichkeit des Christbaums aufzubewahren sowie alte Traditionen zu pflegen. Dazu gehört eine Weihnachtspyramide, die sich oft in der Nähe des wichtigsten Weihnachtsbaums der Stadt dreht.
Wenn man aber an die wichtigsten Christbäume in den USA
(New York, Washington) denkt, sind die mit möglichst viel Weihnachtsschmuck geschmückt. Es scheint, als ob eine Weihnachtskugel an jeder Nadel hängen würde! Am wertvollsten ist der Christbaum, dessen Schmuck am meisten gekostet hat.
Im Vereinigten Königreich scheinen all diese Traditionen vereinigt zu sein...

Lietuvoje dizaineriai kuria menines kalėdinių
eglių koncepcijas. Tad kiekvienoje jų yra ryškus kūrybinis pradas, atspindintis miesto dvasią. Kartais daugiau pavykusiai, kartais mažiau ir todėl žavingas. Kalėdos nėra skirtos tobulybėms, jos skirtos visiems ir kuriamos visų.
