MALTA - EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE 2018!
In this time, when Valletta, Malta's capital, was
European Capital of Culture, you could enjoy not only concerts, performances, exhibitions and shows, but also the 13 sculptures, that depict ...Maltese proverbs. Next to the main Nativity scene of Malta, you could discover a giant hand cupping a bird representing the Maltese proverb ‘Better a bird in the hand than a hundred in the air’. It’s similar to the British ‘A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush’. Actually, it's a right proverb on New Year's Eve, isn't?

Im zweiten Halbjahr 2018 wurde Valletta, die Hauptstadt von Malta, zur Kulturhauptstadt Europas. Man lud zu Konzerten und Installationen ein, überraschte mit Shows, Preisen sowie mit den Skulpturen, die ...maltesische Sprichwörter verkörperten. "Besser der Spatz in der Hand, als hundert am Himmel". Auf Deutsch klingt es "Besser der Spatz in der Hand, als die Taube auf dem Dach". Ein gerade richtiges Sprichwort am Silvesterabend! Nicht zufällig saß der weiße Spatz in der Nähe der größten Krippe von Malta...

"Geriau vienas žvirblis rankoje, negu šimtas danguje", kas lietuviškai būtų "Geriau žvirblis rankoje, negu briedis girioje". Tą patarlę, sakoma, visada pravartu prisiminti palydint senuosius metus! Turbūt neveltui baltas paukštis buvo įsitaisęs netoli didžiosios Maltos Prakartėlės...

MALTA'S NEW YEAR: DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY!
While the European Capital of Culture year officially came
to a close on the 15th of December, the Valletta 2018 Cultural Programme still has one last big event to offer: the New Year’s Eve concert.
You still could enjoy 13 sculptures illustrating Maltese proverbs too. One of them - a sleeping dog - is situated in the city centre of Valletta, capital of Malta. It illustrates the proverb: 'Do not wake the sleeping dog!' It means: Do not instigate trouble. Leave whatever might have caused trouble in the past well alone.
I think, it's the life motto of Malta in general, and a really motto of New Year's celebrations. So, today on New Year's Eve, let's leave trouble in the past well alone and enjoy colourful fireworks!

Nors Valletta su Europos kultūros sostinės titulu oficialiai atsisveikino gruodžio 15 d., bet liko dar paskutinis renginys - Naujųjų Metų koncertas. Dar liko ir minėtos skulptūros- patarlės. Vallettos centre, praktiškai Maltos širdyje, saldžiai miegantis baltas šuo perspėja: "Nežadink miegančio šuns!" Maltietiškai tai reiškia, palik ramybėje rūpesčius, ankščiau ar vėliau, jie vis tiek liks praeityje. Tai, turbūt, yra apskritai maltiečių gyvenimo motto, ir jau tikrai Naujųjų sutiktuvių motto. Kokie čia dar gali būti rūpesčiai artėjant Naujiesiems ir griaudint spalvotiems fejerverkams!!!

FIREWORKS OVER MALTA
If you visit the Science Museum of Malta, you can create fireworks for Malta yourself and see it on the screen. I created the fireworks over Malta in the beginning of December. How the real lights show will look today at midnight, let's go to the New Year's Eve party in St George's Square and see it!

Wenn man das Wissenschaftsmuseum von Malta besucht, kann man selbst Feuerwerke für Malta programmieren und gleich im Bildschirm prüfen, wie die aussehen. Solche Feuerweke (s. Fotos oben), habe ich noch Anfang Dezember geschaffen. Wie aber die wirklich heute aussehen, teile ich euch noch mit, denn eben jetzt geht's zur Silvesterparty auf dem St. Georg-Platz von Valletta.

Naujametinius fejerverkus virš Maltos kiekvienas gali sukurti pats. Tam tereikia apsilankyti Maltos Mokslo muziejuje, kur juos galima suprogramuoti kompiuteryje ir savo sukurtą šviesų žaismą pasižiūrėti ekrane. Štai tokius naujametinius fejerverkus virš Maltos užprogramavau aš dar gruodžio pradžioje (žr. viršuje). O kokie jie bus iš tiesų, pasižiūrėsim. Taigi, keliaujam švęsti Naujų Metų į Vallettą, į Šv. Georgo aikštę.

THE NEW YEAR'S EVE CONCERT
In Malta, the festivities take place probably there,
where you could see a saint! So, it wasn't probably coincidence, that St George's Square of Valletta was chosen for the New Year's Concert. In Lithuania, the most important New Year's party takes usually place where you can enjoy the most beautiful Christmas tree of the city. And in the St George's Square, you could discover very original 'Christmas trees' -mandarin trees, decorated with confetti.
You could see giant glittering confetti rising over the stage
too, where the concert took place. The concert started at 8.30pm with the duo Xarulù, followed by the famous artists of Malta, as well by the most famous singer of the island state - Ira Losco.
She represented Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest very successfully twice: In Tallinn in 2002 (placed 2nd behind Marie N. from Latvia) and in Stockholm in 2016 (placing 12th). It's interesting, that her participation in the Eurovision Song Contest is connected with the neighbors of Lithuania: Estonia, Sweden, Latvia. Maybe, it's because God sent a Baltic weather - cool, windy, rainy- to Malta for New Year's performance of Ira Losco? It reminded us of our countries not only the New Year's weather, but also striking clocks. Though in Malta, it was only 10p.m., in Lithuania and other Baltic countries, it begun the last hour of the year 2018.
DAS SILVESTERKONZERT
In Malta ist vermutlich ein Fest immer dort, wo
ein Heiliger ist! So wurde vermutlich nicht zufällig St. Georg-Platz in Valletta für die Neujahrsparty vorgesehen. In Litauen findet das wichtigste Neujahrskonzert dort statt, wo der schönste Christbaum der Stadt steht. Und auf dem St. Georg-Platz konnte man sehr originelle "Christbäume" bewundern, und zwar Mandarinenbäume, geschmückt mit Konfetti. Riesige glänzende Konfetti stieg immer wieder auch über die Bühne, wo das Konzert stattfand.
Nach dem Auftritt des originellen Duetts "Xarulù"
folgten andere berühmten maltesischen Sänger, darunter auch die berühmteste des Inselstaats - Ira Losco. Sie vertrat Malta zweimal beim Eurovision Song Contest. Ira Losco belegte den 2. Platz (hinter Marie N. aus Lettland) in Tallinn 2002 sowie den 12. Platz in Stockholm 2016. Ihre Teilnahme am Eurovision Song Contest ist komischerweise mit den Nachbarn Litauens verbunden: Estland, Schweden, Lettland. Komischerweise hat Gott zu Ira Losco's Neujahrsauftritt auch baltisches Wetter - kühl, windig und regnerisch - geschickt. An unsere Länder. erinnerte auch der Schlag einer Uhr: es war 22.00 Uhr maltersischer Zeit, was bedeutete, dass die letzte Stunde
des Jahres 2018 in Litauen angefangen hat...
NAUJAMETINIS KONCERTAS
Maltoje - ten, kur šventė, ten turi būti ir šventasis!
Yad turbūt neatsitiktinai pagrindinės Naujųjų sutiktuvės vyko Vallettos Šv. Georgo aikštėje. Pas mus Naujųjų šventė dažniausiai vyksta ten, kur yra gražiausia miesto eglė. Tuo tarpu Šv. Georgo aikštę supo labai originalios naujametinės "eglės" - mandarinų medžiai, papuošti konfeti. Milžiniški blizgantys konfeti vis kilo kilo į orą ir nuo aikštėje įrengtos scenos, kur vyko koncertas. Prasidėjo jis nuo originalaus dueto "Xarulù" pasirodymo, po to koncertavo žymiausi Maltos dainininkai.
Ttarp jų, turbūt, ir pati žymiausia - Ira Losco, kuri jau du
kartus atstovavo Maltą "Eurovizijoje". Tai įvyko 2002 m. Taline, kur ji užėmė antrą vietą, nusileidusi tik 12 taškų daugiau surinkusiai Marie N iš Latvijos, ir 2016 m. Švedijoje, kur ji užėmė irgi garbingą 11-tą vietą. Jos euroviziniai pasirodymai savotiškai susiję su Lietuvos kaimynais - Estija, Švedija, Latvija. Gal todėl ir jos naujametiam pasirodymui Dievas pasiuntė baltiškai vėsų, vėjuotą orą su lietučiu. Mums mūsų kraštus priminė ir laikrodis, išmušęs 22 val. Maltos laiku. Tai reiškė, kad Lietuvoje prasidėjo paskutinė 2018 metų valanda...

HAPPY NEW YEAR, LITHUANIA!
New Year comes to Lithuania an hour earlier than in Malta.
So, we left the celebrating people in the St George's Square and went to the other sacred place of Valletta and Malta, namely to the St John's Cathedral with the loudest bells of the island. We thought, it's the best place for our Lithuanian New Year welcome.
There, you could discover three clocks on the Cathedral
showing different time. According to the Maltese, it has to prevent the devil from coming to the Mass. But I think the Southern European don't give top priority to exact time. Maybe, you can say, hours do not strike for a happy man... Actually, in Malta, you don't see many places with a clock showing exact time. But we found an old English clock in the street opposite the St John's Cathedral. And it showed the exact time! And when the clock struck 11p.m. in Malta, it was midnight in our country: So, happy New Year, Lithuania and with the best wishes from Malta! After a few minutes, the bells of the Cathedral began to ring too. We understood that this last hour of the year 2018 was an extra hour in our life. We spent it with the Maltese strolling around the streets in different directions...
PROSIT NEUJAHR IN LITAUEN!
Das Neujahr erscheint in Litauen eine Stunde früher
als in Malta. So verließen wir den musizierenden St. Georg-Platz und gingen zum anderen heiligen Platz von Valetta und Malta, und zwar zur St. John-Kathedrale, deren Glocken am lautesten auf der ganzen Insel schlagen. Wir dachten, dass unser litauischer Neujahrsempfang hier gerade richtig ist.
Die drei Uhren an der Kathedrale zeigen unterschiedliche Zeit, was - laut Malteser - den Teufel irremachen muss, damit er nicht in der Messe erscheint. Ich würde aber lieber glauben, dass genaue Zeit einfach keine Priorität für Südländer ist. Sie würden vielleicht sagen, dass dem Glücklichen einfach keine Stunde schlägt... In Malta ist es wirklich schwierig, einen Platz mit der genauen Uhr zu finden. Aber an der Straße, gerade der St. John-Kathedrale gegenüber, ist komischerweise eine alte englische Uhr an der Wand erhalten geblieben. Und die zeigte genaue Zeit! Und als die elf schlug, kündete es Mitternacht in Litauen. So, prosit Neujahr in Litauen und beste Neujahrsgrüße aus Malta! Nach einigen Minuten begannen auch die Glocken der Kathedrale zu schlagen und man konnte darauf toasten, dass man sein Leben durch eine zusätzliche Stunde verlängert hat. Also, wir hatten eine zusätzliche Stunde im Jahre 2018, die wir unter den Maltesern verbringen, für die keine Stunden schlagen und die an uns in Scharren in unterschiedlichen Richtungen vorbeigingen...
SU NAUJAIS METAIS, LIETUVA!
Naujieji ateina į Lietuvą valanda anksčiau nei į Maltą.
Palikome muzikuojančią Šv. Georgo aikštę, nes pagalvojome, kad geriausia būtų sutikti lietuviškus Naujus Metus prie kitos Vallettos ir visos Maltos šventenybės - Šv. Jono katedros, kurios varpai skamba garsiausiai visoje saloje.
Ant katedros esantys trys laikrodžiai (!) rodo skirtingą laiką, kas, anot maltiečių, skirta velniui suklaidinti, kad jis nepasirodytų mišiose. O aš manyčiau, kad tikslus laikas tiesiog nėra pietiečių prioritetas, o jūs gal sakytumėte, kad laimingi valandų neskaičiuoja...
Maltoje, iš tiesų, sunku rasti vietą su laikrodžiu, rodančiu
tikslų laiką. Bet priešais Šv. Jono katedrą, kitoje gatvės pusėje, ant namo sienos kažkokiu stebuklingu būdu išliko senas angliškas laikrodis. Jis rodė tikslų laiką ir jam išmušus vienuolika, reiškė, kad Lietuvoje jau vidurnaktis ir prasideda Naujieji. Taigi, su Naujaisiais, Lietuva, iš Maltos!
Po poros minučių pasigirdo Maltos kadedros varpai ir buvo galima vėl pakelti tostą - už tai, kad ir šiais metais prasiilginome savo gyvenimą viena papildoma valanda!. Taigi, dar viena 2018 metų valanda Maltoje tarp laimingųjų maltiečių, kurie neskaičiuoja valandų ir kurie traukė būriais įvairiausiomis kryptimis.

CHEERS MALTA!
For the Maltese, it's important to celebrate with friends
and family, while among the family members, you could see not only grandparents, but also grandchildren in baby carriages. For them, it's important too, to celebrate not at home, but in public. The New Year celebration was spread across many streets in Valletta, but the most people strolled along the Republic Street, interesting illuminated not only with European, but also with Arabic motifs. This main street of Valletta leads to St. George's Square, were the people enjoyed still the concert and giant glittering confetti, that wind scattered over the Old Town of Valletta. You could see, that some groups of people didn't stop at St George's Square and went two streets farther. There, you could discover the tables, covered with food and drinks, that the Maltese had brought themselves from home. So, they enjoyed their second religion - the food - talking many hours about nothing. It was the feast HERE AND NOW under the free sky until fireworks appeared...
PROSIT MALTA!
Für Malteser ist es wichtig im Freundes- oder Familienkreis
zu feiern, wobei unter Familienmitgliedern von Urgroßeltern bis zu Urenkeln im Wagen sehen konnte. Es ist für sie auch wichtig, nicht zu Hause, sondern in der Öffentlichkeit zu feiern. Die Feierlichkeiten zum Neujahr gab es in allen Straßen von Valletta. Der Hauptstrom der Feiernden floß aber die Hauptstraße - Republic Street - entlang, originell beleuchtet nicht nur mit europäischen, sondern auch mit arabischen Motiven. Die Straße führt zum St. Georg-Platz, wo das Konzert immer nocht stattfand und woher der Wind riesige glänzende Konfetti über die Altstadt von Valletta zerstreute. Es war aber zu sehen, dass es noch eine Strömung der Feiernden gab, die zu einigen Straßen in der Nähe von St. Georg- Platz führte. Dort standen Tische, bedeckt mit Speisen und Getränken, und das alles haben die Malteser selbst von zu Hause mitgebracht. So genossen sie ihre zweite Religion - das Essen, wobei man sich lange und entspannt von nichts unterhalten konnte. Es war ein Fest HIER und JETZT unter dem freien Himmel so lange, bis Feuerwerke erschienen...
Į SVEIKATĄ, MALTA!
Maltiečiams svarbu švęsti draugų ar šeimos rate - nuo
prosenelio iki vežimėlyje miegančio proanūkio. Ir dar svarbu švęsti ne užsidarius namie, o išėjus į gatves, į viešumą. Naujųjų sutiktuvės buvo švenčiamos beveik visose Valettos gatvėse, bet pagrindinis srautas tekėjo centrine Respublikos gatve. Gal dėl ryškaus naujametinio apšvietimo, kuriame pynėsi arabiški ir europietiški dekoro elementai. O gal, kad ji vedė link Šv. Georgo aikštės, kur dar tebevyko koncertas ir iš kur vėjas nešiojo milžiniškus konfeti po visą Vallettos senamiestį. Bet buvo jaučiama dar viena žmonių judėjimo kryptis ir pasidarė smalsu, kur gi ji veda? Pasirodo, viena ilga gatvė netoli Georgo aikštės buvo apstatyta stalais, kuriuos maltiečiai atsinešė patys. Patys atsinešė ir valgius bei gėrimus ir mėgavosi savo antrąja religija - valgymu drauge kalbant ištisas valandas apie nieką. T. y., mėgavosi švente ČIA ir DABAR po atviru dangumi, kol jame ėmė žybsėti naujametiniai fejerverkai...

CHEERS NEW YEAR 2019!
In Malta, the New Year startet with the fireworks. You can't believe, but it were the simplest New Year light show, that I have ever seen in my life. Even I have preprogrammed more interesting New Yer's fireworks over Malta. Maybe, the contrast was so big, because last year, I celebrated the New Year's Eve party at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin with the extraordinary New Year light show. But the lights in the sky weren't so important for the Maltese. They prefered to look not at the sky, but at the people they sharing the common New Year's table with. For the Maltese, the most important thing is to live life with their friends and family members and let others to live theirs. Maybe, it's their way to forget all troubles. Actually, do they exist?
PROSIT NEUJAHR 2019!
Das Neujahr kam nach Malta mit den Feuerwerken, die am schlichtesten waren im Vergleich mit denen, die ich in meinem Leben gesehen habe. Sogar ich habe eine ziemlich interessantere Lichtershow über Malta vorprogrammiert! Der Kontrast war auch deshalb so stark, weil ich voriges Jahr die Silvesterparty am Brandenburger Tor in Berlin mit außerordentlichen Feuerwerken erlebt habe. Aber für die Malteser schien die Lichtershow gar nicht so wichtig zu sein. Sie schauen lieber nicht zum Himmel, sondern auf ihre Mitmenschen am Neujahrstisch. Am wichtigsten ist es wohl für die Malteser, im Freundes- oder Familienkreis zu leben und andere leben zu lassen. Denn eben so vergisst man alle Sorgen. Eigentlich kann es überhaupt irgendwelche Sorgen geben???
SU NAUJAIS 2019-AISIAIS!
Su fejerverkais į Maltą atkeliavo ir Naujieji! Tai buvo
kukliausi fejerverkai, kokius esu kada nors mačiusi. Net aš užprogramau gerokai ryškesnį šviesų žaismą virš Maltos! Kontrastas didžiulis dar ir todėl, kad pernai Naujuosius sutikau Berlyne su įspūdingais fejerverkais. Tiesą sakant, atrodė, kad maltiečiams jie mažiausiai rūpi. Jie mažiausiai dairėsi į dangų ir savo dėmesį sutelkė į artimųjų būrį, kuriame šventė Naujuosius. Jiems svarbiausia - džiaugtis gyvenimu šeimos ar draugų būryje ir leisti juo džiaugtis kitiems. Nes jei esi su draugais ir šeimynykščiais, tai nėra jokių rūpesčių! Nors kokie čia dar gali būti rūpesčiai???

IT'S REALLY A NEW YEAR'S TROUBLE?
Even the chaos after the New Year wasn't important for the Maltese. In Malta, you can pay and order a taxi in so-called Taxi kiosks. In the morning, we asked whether it will be possible to order a taxi after New Year's celebration? It was confirmed, that there is no problem, but it was vice versa. After midnight, you had to stay in a mile-long line till you could speak with the lady of the Taxi kiosk. And she informed, you have ...yourself to search for a taxi. If you went to the direction, shown by the Taxi lady, you could see no festive situation in the festive illuminated street. A crowd of people pressed towards the each appearing taxi... We didn't feel in the least doing it, namely we didn't want to start the first day of the New Year with fighting and decided to go home on foot. Behind a few districts, an empty taxi had stopped and invited to get on. In the case, the Maltese would probably ask: 'Do you mean, you were in trouble?"

Sogar das Chaos nach dem Neujahrsempfang schien
für Malteser nicht der Rede wert. In Malta sind Taxikiosks eingerichtet, wo man ein Taxi bestellt und gleich bezahlt. Noch am Morgen haben wir gefragt, ob es tatsächlich möglich ist, hier ein Taxi nach dem Neujahrsempfang zu bestellen? Es wurde versichert, dass es kein Problem gibt, aber es war umgekehrt. Gleich nach der Mitternacht musste man eine kilometerlange Schlange stehen, bis man zum Schalter kam, wo man erfuhr, dass man ...selbst nach einem Taxi suchen muss. Und als man in die von der Dame am Schalter gezeigten Richtung ging, war das Bild auf der feierlich beleuchteten Straße nicht so feierlich! Scharren von Leuten stürzten auf jedes Taxi, das erschien...
Es gab keine Lust, den ersten Tag des Neuen Jahres mit Ringen anzufangen. So wurde entschlossen, zu Fuß nach Hause zu gehen. Hinter ein paar Vierteln hielt ein leeres Taxi an und fragte, ob wir nicht mitfahren möchten? Malteser würden in dem Fall wohl fragen: "Nennt ihr es Sorgen?"
NAUJAMETINIAI RŪPESČIAI - ARGI?
Net chaosas su taksi, kuris kilo po Naujųjų sutiktuvių jiems neatrodė vertas dėmesio. Maltoje yra įrengti taksi kioskai, kur sumoki pinigus ir tau iškviečiamas taksi. Dar ryte paklausėme, ar tikrai čia po Naujųjų sutiktuvių, t. y., po vidurnakčio bus galima užsisakyti taksi? Užtikrino, kad tikrai taip, bet buvo kitaip. Po fejeverkų prie kiosko Vallettoje nusidriekė milžiniška eilė, o priėjus prie langelio sužinai, kad ...turi eiti pats ieškoti taksi! O nuėjus nurodyta kryptimi, vaizdas buvo toks nelabai šventinis šventiškai apšviestoje gatvėje! Būriai žmonių puola prie pasirodžiusio taksi... Nesinorėjo pradėti Naujųjų Metų grumtynėse, todėl nutarėme eiti pėsčiomis. Už poros kvartalų tuščias taksi sustojo pats ir pasisiūlė parvežti. Tai kokie čia rūpesčiai, pasakytų maltiečiai?

DAS LEBEN OHNE SORGEN

Diese Philosophie vom Leben ohne Sorgen, markiert auf einem Handtuch, habe ich in einem Souvenirladen in Valletta entdeckt. Es gab dann keine Sorgen mehr...
GYVENIMAS BE RŪPESČIŲ

Šią filosofiją apie gyvenimą be rūpesčių, surašytą ant rankšluosčio, aptikau vienoje suvienyrų parduotuvėje Vallettoje. Ir tikrai, po to nebeliko jokių rūpesčių...

FEUERWERKE ÜBER MALTA
Wenn man das Wissenschaftsmuseum von Malta besucht, kann man selbst Feuerwerke für Malta programmieren und gleich im Bildschirm prüfen, wie die aussehen. Solche Feuerweke (s. Fotos oben), habe ich noch Anfang Dezember geschaffen. Wie aber die wirklich heute aussehen, teile ich euch noch mit, denn eben jetzt geht's zur Silvesterparty auf dem St. Georg-Platz von Valletta.

Tam tereikia apsilankyti Maltos Mokslo muziejuje, kur juos galima suprogramuoti kompiuteryje ir savo sukurtą šviesų žaismą pasižiūrėti ekrane. Štai tokius naujametinius fejerverkus virš Maltos užprogramavau aš dar gruodžio pradžioje (žr. viršuje). O kokie jie bus iš tiesų, pasižiūrėsim. Taigi, keliaujam švęsti Naujų Metų į Vallettą, į Šv. Georgo aikštę.

THE NEW YEAR'S EVE CONCERT
In Malta, the festivities take place probably there,
where you could see a saint! So, it wasn't probably coincidence, that St George's Square of Valletta was chosen for the New Year's Concert. In Lithuania, the most important New Year's party takes usually place where you can enjoy the most beautiful Christmas tree of the city. And in the St George's Square, you could discover very original 'Christmas trees' -mandarin trees, decorated with confetti.
You could see giant glittering confetti rising over the stage
too, where the concert took place. The concert started at 8.30pm with the duo Xarulù, followed by the famous artists of Malta, as well by the most famous singer of the island state - Ira Losco.
She represented Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest very successfully twice: In Tallinn in 2002 (placed 2nd behind Marie N. from Latvia) and in Stockholm in 2016 (placing 12th). It's interesting, that her participation in the Eurovision Song Contest is connected with the neighbors of Lithuania: Estonia, Sweden, Latvia. Maybe, it's because God sent a Baltic weather - cool, windy, rainy- to Malta for New Year's performance of Ira Losco? It reminded us of our countries not only the New Year's weather, but also striking clocks. Though in Malta, it was only 10p.m., in Lithuania and other Baltic countries, it begun the last hour of the year 2018.
DAS SILVESTERKONZERT
In Malta ist vermutlich ein Fest immer dort, wo
ein Heiliger ist! So wurde vermutlich nicht zufällig St. Georg-Platz in Valletta für die Neujahrsparty vorgesehen. In Litauen findet das wichtigste Neujahrskonzert dort statt, wo der schönste Christbaum der Stadt steht. Und auf dem St. Georg-Platz konnte man sehr originelle "Christbäume" bewundern, und zwar Mandarinenbäume, geschmückt mit Konfetti. Riesige glänzende Konfetti stieg immer wieder auch über die Bühne, wo das Konzert stattfand.
Nach dem Auftritt des originellen Duetts "Xarulù"
folgten andere berühmten maltesischen Sänger, darunter auch die berühmteste des Inselstaats - Ira Losco. Sie vertrat Malta zweimal beim Eurovision Song Contest. Ira Losco belegte den 2. Platz (hinter Marie N. aus Lettland) in Tallinn 2002 sowie den 12. Platz in Stockholm 2016. Ihre Teilnahme am Eurovision Song Contest ist komischerweise mit den Nachbarn Litauens verbunden: Estland, Schweden, Lettland. Komischerweise hat Gott zu Ira Losco's Neujahrsauftritt auch baltisches Wetter - kühl, windig und regnerisch - geschickt. An unsere Länder. erinnerte auch der Schlag einer Uhr: es war 22.00 Uhr maltersischer Zeit, was bedeutete, dass die letzte Stunde
des Jahres 2018 in Litauen angefangen hat...
NAUJAMETINIS KONCERTAS
Maltoje - ten, kur šventė, ten turi būti ir šventasis!
Yad turbūt neatsitiktinai pagrindinės Naujųjų sutiktuvės vyko Vallettos Šv. Georgo aikštėje. Pas mus Naujųjų šventė dažniausiai vyksta ten, kur yra gražiausia miesto eglė. Tuo tarpu Šv. Georgo aikštę supo labai originalios naujametinės "eglės" - mandarinų medžiai, papuošti konfeti. Milžiniški blizgantys konfeti vis kilo kilo į orą ir nuo aikštėje įrengtos scenos, kur vyko koncertas. Prasidėjo jis nuo originalaus dueto "Xarulù" pasirodymo, po to koncertavo žymiausi Maltos dainininkai.
Ttarp jų, turbūt, ir pati žymiausia - Ira Losco, kuri jau du
kartus atstovavo Maltą "Eurovizijoje". Tai įvyko 2002 m. Taline, kur ji užėmė antrą vietą, nusileidusi tik 12 taškų daugiau surinkusiai Marie N iš Latvijos, ir 2016 m. Švedijoje, kur ji užėmė irgi garbingą 11-tą vietą. Jos euroviziniai pasirodymai savotiškai susiję su Lietuvos kaimynais - Estija, Švedija, Latvija. Gal todėl ir jos naujametiam pasirodymui Dievas pasiuntė baltiškai vėsų, vėjuotą orą su lietučiu. Mums mūsų kraštus priminė ir laikrodis, išmušęs 22 val. Maltos laiku. Tai reiškė, kad Lietuvoje prasidėjo paskutinė 2018 metų valanda...

HAPPY NEW YEAR, LITHUANIA!
New Year comes to Lithuania an hour earlier than in Malta.
So, we left the celebrating people in the St George's Square and went to the other sacred place of Valletta and Malta, namely to the St John's Cathedral with the loudest bells of the island. We thought, it's the best place for our Lithuanian New Year welcome.
There, you could discover three clocks on the Cathedral
showing different time. According to the Maltese, it has to prevent the devil from coming to the Mass. But I think the Southern European don't give top priority to exact time. Maybe, you can say, hours do not strike for a happy man... Actually, in Malta, you don't see many places with a clock showing exact time. But we found an old English clock in the street opposite the St John's Cathedral. And it showed the exact time! And when the clock struck 11p.m. in Malta, it was midnight in our country: So, happy New Year, Lithuania and with the best wishes from Malta! After a few minutes, the bells of the Cathedral began to ring too. We understood that this last hour of the year 2018 was an extra hour in our life. We spent it with the Maltese strolling around the streets in different directions...
PROSIT NEUJAHR IN LITAUEN!
Das Neujahr erscheint in Litauen eine Stunde früher
als in Malta. So verließen wir den musizierenden St. Georg-Platz und gingen zum anderen heiligen Platz von Valetta und Malta, und zwar zur St. John-Kathedrale, deren Glocken am lautesten auf der ganzen Insel schlagen. Wir dachten, dass unser litauischer Neujahrsempfang hier gerade richtig ist.
Die drei Uhren an der Kathedrale zeigen unterschiedliche Zeit, was - laut Malteser - den Teufel irremachen muss, damit er nicht in der Messe erscheint. Ich würde aber lieber glauben, dass genaue Zeit einfach keine Priorität für Südländer ist. Sie würden vielleicht sagen, dass dem Glücklichen einfach keine Stunde schlägt... In Malta ist es wirklich schwierig, einen Platz mit der genauen Uhr zu finden. Aber an der Straße, gerade der St. John-Kathedrale gegenüber, ist komischerweise eine alte englische Uhr an der Wand erhalten geblieben. Und die zeigte genaue Zeit! Und als die elf schlug, kündete es Mitternacht in Litauen. So, prosit Neujahr in Litauen und beste Neujahrsgrüße aus Malta! Nach einigen Minuten begannen auch die Glocken der Kathedrale zu schlagen und man konnte darauf toasten, dass man sein Leben durch eine zusätzliche Stunde verlängert hat. Also, wir hatten eine zusätzliche Stunde im Jahre 2018, die wir unter den Maltesern verbringen, für die keine Stunden schlagen und die an uns in Scharren in unterschiedlichen Richtungen vorbeigingen...
SU NAUJAIS METAIS, LIETUVA!
Naujieji ateina į Lietuvą valanda anksčiau nei į Maltą.
Palikome muzikuojančią Šv. Georgo aikštę, nes pagalvojome, kad geriausia būtų sutikti lietuviškus Naujus Metus prie kitos Vallettos ir visos Maltos šventenybės - Šv. Jono katedros, kurios varpai skamba garsiausiai visoje saloje.
Ant katedros esantys trys laikrodžiai (!) rodo skirtingą laiką, kas, anot maltiečių, skirta velniui suklaidinti, kad jis nepasirodytų mišiose. O aš manyčiau, kad tikslus laikas tiesiog nėra pietiečių prioritetas, o jūs gal sakytumėte, kad laimingi valandų neskaičiuoja...
Maltoje, iš tiesų, sunku rasti vietą su laikrodžiu, rodančiu
tikslų laiką. Bet priešais Šv. Jono katedrą, kitoje gatvės pusėje, ant namo sienos kažkokiu stebuklingu būdu išliko senas angliškas laikrodis. Jis rodė tikslų laiką ir jam išmušus vienuolika, reiškė, kad Lietuvoje jau vidurnaktis ir prasideda Naujieji. Taigi, su Naujaisiais, Lietuva, iš Maltos!
Po poros minučių pasigirdo Maltos kadedros varpai ir buvo galima vėl pakelti tostą - už tai, kad ir šiais metais prasiilginome savo gyvenimą viena papildoma valanda!. Taigi, dar viena 2018 metų valanda Maltoje tarp laimingųjų maltiečių, kurie neskaičiuoja valandų ir kurie traukė būriais įvairiausiomis kryptimis.

CHEERS MALTA!
For the Maltese, it's important to celebrate with friends
and family, while among the family members, you could see not only grandparents, but also grandchildren in baby carriages. For them, it's important too, to celebrate not at home, but in public. The New Year celebration was spread across many streets in Valletta, but the most people strolled along the Republic Street, interesting illuminated not only with European, but also with Arabic motifs. This main street of Valletta leads to St. George's Square, were the people enjoyed still the concert and giant glittering confetti, that wind scattered over the Old Town of Valletta. You could see, that some groups of people didn't stop at St George's Square and went two streets farther. There, you could discover the tables, covered with food and drinks, that the Maltese had brought themselves from home. So, they enjoyed their second religion - the food - talking many hours about nothing. It was the feast HERE AND NOW under the free sky until fireworks appeared...
PROSIT MALTA!
Für Malteser ist es wichtig im Freundes- oder Familienkreis
zu feiern, wobei unter Familienmitgliedern von Urgroßeltern bis zu Urenkeln im Wagen sehen konnte. Es ist für sie auch wichtig, nicht zu Hause, sondern in der Öffentlichkeit zu feiern. Die Feierlichkeiten zum Neujahr gab es in allen Straßen von Valletta. Der Hauptstrom der Feiernden floß aber die Hauptstraße - Republic Street - entlang, originell beleuchtet nicht nur mit europäischen, sondern auch mit arabischen Motiven. Die Straße führt zum St. Georg-Platz, wo das Konzert immer nocht stattfand und woher der Wind riesige glänzende Konfetti über die Altstadt von Valletta zerstreute. Es war aber zu sehen, dass es noch eine Strömung der Feiernden gab, die zu einigen Straßen in der Nähe von St. Georg- Platz führte. Dort standen Tische, bedeckt mit Speisen und Getränken, und das alles haben die Malteser selbst von zu Hause mitgebracht. So genossen sie ihre zweite Religion - das Essen, wobei man sich lange und entspannt von nichts unterhalten konnte. Es war ein Fest HIER und JETZT unter dem freien Himmel so lange, bis Feuerwerke erschienen...
Į SVEIKATĄ, MALTA!
Maltiečiams svarbu švęsti draugų ar šeimos rate - nuo
prosenelio iki vežimėlyje miegančio proanūkio. Ir dar svarbu švęsti ne užsidarius namie, o išėjus į gatves, į viešumą. Naujųjų sutiktuvės buvo švenčiamos beveik visose Valettos gatvėse, bet pagrindinis srautas tekėjo centrine Respublikos gatve. Gal dėl ryškaus naujametinio apšvietimo, kuriame pynėsi arabiški ir europietiški dekoro elementai. O gal, kad ji vedė link Šv. Georgo aikštės, kur dar tebevyko koncertas ir iš kur vėjas nešiojo milžiniškus konfeti po visą Vallettos senamiestį. Bet buvo jaučiama dar viena žmonių judėjimo kryptis ir pasidarė smalsu, kur gi ji veda? Pasirodo, viena ilga gatvė netoli Georgo aikštės buvo apstatyta stalais, kuriuos maltiečiai atsinešė patys. Patys atsinešė ir valgius bei gėrimus ir mėgavosi savo antrąja religija - valgymu drauge kalbant ištisas valandas apie nieką. T. y., mėgavosi švente ČIA ir DABAR po atviru dangumi, kol jame ėmė žybsėti naujametiniai fejerverkai...

CHEERS NEW YEAR 2019!
In Malta, the New Year startet with the fireworks. You can't believe, but it were the simplest New Year light show, that I have ever seen in my life. Even I have preprogrammed more interesting New Yer's fireworks over Malta. Maybe, the contrast was so big, because last year, I celebrated the New Year's Eve party at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin with the extraordinary New Year light show. But the lights in the sky weren't so important for the Maltese. They prefered to look not at the sky, but at the people they sharing the common New Year's table with. For the Maltese, the most important thing is to live life with their friends and family members and let others to live theirs. Maybe, it's their way to forget all troubles. Actually, do they exist?
PROSIT NEUJAHR 2019!
Das Neujahr kam nach Malta mit den Feuerwerken, die am schlichtesten waren im Vergleich mit denen, die ich in meinem Leben gesehen habe. Sogar ich habe eine ziemlich interessantere Lichtershow über Malta vorprogrammiert! Der Kontrast war auch deshalb so stark, weil ich voriges Jahr die Silvesterparty am Brandenburger Tor in Berlin mit außerordentlichen Feuerwerken erlebt habe. Aber für die Malteser schien die Lichtershow gar nicht so wichtig zu sein. Sie schauen lieber nicht zum Himmel, sondern auf ihre Mitmenschen am Neujahrstisch. Am wichtigsten ist es wohl für die Malteser, im Freundes- oder Familienkreis zu leben und andere leben zu lassen. Denn eben so vergisst man alle Sorgen. Eigentlich kann es überhaupt irgendwelche Sorgen geben???
SU NAUJAIS 2019-AISIAIS!
Su fejerverkais į Maltą atkeliavo ir Naujieji! Tai buvo
kukliausi fejerverkai, kokius esu kada nors mačiusi. Net aš užprogramau gerokai ryškesnį šviesų žaismą virš Maltos! Kontrastas didžiulis dar ir todėl, kad pernai Naujuosius sutikau Berlyne su įspūdingais fejerverkais. Tiesą sakant, atrodė, kad maltiečiams jie mažiausiai rūpi. Jie mažiausiai dairėsi į dangų ir savo dėmesį sutelkė į artimųjų būrį, kuriame šventė Naujuosius. Jiems svarbiausia - džiaugtis gyvenimu šeimos ar draugų būryje ir leisti juo džiaugtis kitiems. Nes jei esi su draugais ir šeimynykščiais, tai nėra jokių rūpesčių! Nors kokie čia dar gali būti rūpesčiai???

IT'S REALLY A NEW YEAR'S TROUBLE?
Even the chaos after the New Year wasn't important for the Maltese. In Malta, you can pay and order a taxi in so-called Taxi kiosks. In the morning, we asked whether it will be possible to order a taxi after New Year's celebration? It was confirmed, that there is no problem, but it was vice versa. After midnight, you had to stay in a mile-long line till you could speak with the lady of the Taxi kiosk. And she informed, you have ...yourself to search for a taxi. If you went to the direction, shown by the Taxi lady, you could see no festive situation in the festive illuminated street. A crowd of people pressed towards the each appearing taxi... We didn't feel in the least doing it, namely we didn't want to start the first day of the New Year with fighting and decided to go home on foot. Behind a few districts, an empty taxi had stopped and invited to get on. In the case, the Maltese would probably ask: 'Do you mean, you were in trouble?"

Es gab keine Lust, den ersten Tag des Neuen Jahres mit Ringen anzufangen. So wurde entschlossen, zu Fuß nach Hause zu gehen. Hinter ein paar Vierteln hielt ein leeres Taxi an und fragte, ob wir nicht mitfahren möchten? Malteser würden in dem Fall wohl fragen: "Nennt ihr es Sorgen?"
NAUJAMETINIAI RŪPESČIAI - ARGI?
Net chaosas su taksi, kuris kilo po Naujųjų sutiktuvių jiems neatrodė vertas dėmesio. Maltoje yra įrengti taksi kioskai, kur sumoki pinigus ir tau iškviečiamas taksi. Dar ryte paklausėme, ar tikrai čia po Naujųjų sutiktuvių, t. y., po vidurnakčio bus galima užsisakyti taksi? Užtikrino, kad tikrai taip, bet buvo kitaip. Po fejeverkų prie kiosko Vallettoje nusidriekė milžiniška eilė, o priėjus prie langelio sužinai, kad ...turi eiti pats ieškoti taksi! O nuėjus nurodyta kryptimi, vaizdas buvo toks nelabai šventinis šventiškai apšviestoje gatvėje! Būriai žmonių puola prie pasirodžiusio taksi... Nesinorėjo pradėti Naujųjų Metų grumtynėse, todėl nutarėme eiti pėsčiomis. Už poros kvartalų tuščias taksi sustojo pats ir pasisiūlė parvežti. Tai kokie čia rūpesčiai, pasakytų maltiečiai?

THE LIFE WITHOUT TROUBLE

This philosophy of life without worries, marked on a towel, I discovered in a souvenir shop in Valletta. Then, I really never have time to worry...
DAS LEBEN OHNE SORGEN
"Es gibt nur zwei Fälle, sich Sorgen zu machen:

Wenn man nicht krank ist, wozu dann die Sorgen?

Wenn man aber in die Hölle gerät, hat man mit den Freunden beim Händedruck so teuflisch viel zu tun,
dass man hat einfach keine Zeit hat, sich Sorgen zu machen..."
Diese Philosophie vom Leben ohne Sorgen, markiert auf einem Handtuch, habe ich in einem Souvenirladen in Valletta entdeckt. Es gab dann keine Sorgen mehr...
GYVENIMAS BE RŪPESČIŲ
"Yra tik du dalykai, kurie gali kelti rūpesčių:
Jei sergate arba ne.
Jeigu nesergate, tai nėra ko ir rūpintis;
Bet jei sergate, tai yra tik du dalykai, verčiantys nerimauti:
Ar pasveiksite ar numirsite.
Jei pasveiksite, tai ko čia nerimauti?
O jeigu mirsite, du dalykai gali kelti nerimą:
Arba pateksite į rojų ar į pragarą.
Jei pateksite į rojų, tai ko čia rūpintis?
Bet jei pateksite į pragarą, tai bespausdamas rankas draugams būsite
taip velniškai užsiėmęs,
Jog tiesiog neturėsite laiko jokiems rūpesčiams..."
Šią filosofiją apie gyvenimą be rūpesčių, surašytą ant rankšluosčio, aptikau vienoje suvienyrų parduotuvėje Vallettoje. Ir tikrai, po to nebeliko jokių rūpesčių...
