 is a modern country but it has been assiduous in preserving its traditions and its heritage. One of the most famous monuments of GB is Stonehenge in Wiltshire. English Heritage opens the site up every year for the solstice, giving people a chance to get up close to the monument. You know what happened at the Stonehenge festival on the longest day of the year 2017.*

MIDSUMMER 
and the Summer Solstice are celebrated in many countries 
 of the world. It is believed that the days and nights of the midsummer are something special and even magical. 
In many countries of Continental Europe as well as in Lithuania, it is celebrated the shortest night of the year from 23rd to 24th June.  
In GB, the Summer Solstice isn't celebrated officially. 
If you want to do it you can visit Stonehenge to watch the summer solstice sunrise on 21th June, on one of the longest days of the year. During the travelling within GB, it was discoverd celebration of the Summer Solstice that takes place at the same time as in Continental Europe. Of course, it wasn't missed the  chance to celebrate! 

DER HOCHSOMMER  
sowie die Sonnenwende werden in vielen Ländern der Welt mit bestimmten Ritualen gefeiert. Man glaubt, dass Tage und Nächte des Mittsommers etwas Besonderes und sogar Magisches sind. 
In vielen Ländern von Kontinentaleuropa sowie in Litauen wird die kürzeste Nacht des Jahres vom 23. zum 24. Juni gefeiert. 
In GB wird die Sommersonnwendfeier offiziell nicht gefeiert. Wer will es, geht am Abend vom 20. Juni nach Stonehenge, um die aufgehende Sonne am 21. Juni zu beobachten und den längsten Tag des Jahres zu begrüßen. 
Während der Reise durch Großbritannien wurde aber eine Sommersonnwendfeier entdeckt, die in derselben Zeit gefeiert wurde wie in Kontinentaleuropa. 
Diese Chance wurde natűrlich nicht verpasst! 

VIDURVASARIS
ir vasaros saulėgrąža daugelyje pasaulio kultūrų pažymimos šventėmis ir apeigomis. Tikima, kad vidurvasario dienos ir naktys yra stebuklingos, jų metu galima įgauti mistinių galių... Kontinentinė Europa, tarp jų ir Lietuva, švenčia iš birželio 23 į 24, t. y., paskutinę trumpiausią vidurvasario naktį. Tuo tarpu britai šios šventės oficialiai nešvenčia, bet norintys paminėti vidurvasarį birželio 20-osios vakarą renkasi Stounhenže, kur pasitinka saulę birželio 21-ąją ir pasveikina pirmąją ilgiausią vidurvasario dieną. Keliaujant po DB pavyko aptikti saulėgrąžos šventę, kuri buvo švenčiama tuo pat metu, kaip ir kontinentinėje Europoje. Na, tokios progos nepraleidome!

INVITING TO CELEBRATE THE SUMMER SOLSTICE

THE SUN, BONFIRE AND BEER 
 The celebration of the Summer Solstice took place 
in Binstead, a small village of the county of Hampshire, on Friday 23rd - Sunday 25th, June 2017.  
It was organised by The Cedars, a quintessential British pub, nestled in the thick of the sprawling Hampshire countryside. 
The Cedars in Binsted village exudes rustic charm and an unpretentious atmosphere. A spacious garden to the rear of this pub features a playground complete with trampolines, and there's even a sheltered BBQ area with ample seating for those warmer midsummer months. 
The Cedars was holding a "Bonfire & Beer Festival" on the dates shown from midday onwards - as part of Summer Solstice celebrations. Live music and bonfire were on Saturday, 24 June from 7p.m. till late. 
Did we jump over the bonfire? It's the tradition of Lithuanian Summer Solstice celebrations but please, never ask such a question after British festivals, where you drank beer! Because the beer itself is jumping, fire and solstice at once! 
The tradition of the bonfire, it's still known in GB but the Brits don't hear something about the other tradition of the Summer Solstice - visiting of the meadows to pick herbs and plants. Although there are enough meadows in Binstead, as well as across the GB! But in GB, you can find the other tradition of midsummer that is connected with the herbs and plants. There take place open days of fields, meadows and gardens.  

DIE SONNE, FEUER UND BIER  
Die Sommersonnwendfeier fand in Binstead, in einer kleinen Stadt der Grafschaft Hampshire statt. Dazu wurde Bier- und Feuerfest am 23.-25. Juni veranstaltet. Am 24. Juni, also am Johannistag, wurde nicht nur Bier angeboten, sondern auch ein Sonnwendfeuer  entzündet sowie Musik gespielt. Alles hat um 19. 00 Uhr angefangen und lange lange gedauert...  
Der Veranstalter der Sonnwendfeier war "The Cedars", ein richtig britisches Pub, das ideal für warmen Sommerabend im Hochsommer ist. Es hat einen Biergarten, Picknick- und Kinderspielplätze. 
Wurde über das Feuer gesprungen, wie die Tradition der Sommersonnfeier in Litauen ist? So eine Frage passt nie im britischen Fest, wo Bier angeboten wird. Denn Bier selbst ist Springen, Tanzen, Feuer und Sonnenwende! 
Die Tradition des Feuers zur Sommersonnwendfeier ist in GB noch bekannt, während man von der anderen Tradition - vom Spaziergang durch die Wiesen und Kräuter- sowie  Pflanzensammeln (Litauisch  "Kupoliavimas") - nichts mehr gehört hat. Obwohl Pflanzen und Wiesen gibt es sowohl um Binstead als auch in ganz GB mehr als genug! Aber die Briten haben eine andere Tradition im Hochsommer, die mit Pflanzen verbunden ist. Das sind Tage der offenen Wiesen, Felder oder Gärten... 

SAULĖ, LAUŽAS IR ALUS
Vasaros saulėgrąžą kvietė paminėti Binstead'as, nedidukas miestelis Hampšyro grafystėje. Ta proga, birželio 23-25 d.d., buvo orgnizuojamas alaus ir ugnies festivalis. Pagrindinė diena - birželio 24-oji (lietuviškai - Joninės), kai buvo ne tik alus, bet ir degė laužas bei grojo gyva muzika. Šventė prasidėjo 19 val. ir - iki vėlumos, kaip ir nurodyta skelbime.
Šventės organizatorius - garsus savo tradicijomis britiškas pabas "The Cedars". Įsikūręs Binstead'e, kur daug erdvės, pabas turi ir sodą, ir vietą piknikui, ir žaidimo aikšteles vaikams. Jis yra idealus šiltais vasaros vakarais, ypač vidurvasarį.
Ar buvo šokinėjama per laužą? Tokio klausimo geriau neužduoti britiškoje šventėje, kur yra alus. Nes pats alus yra ir šokiai, ir ugnis, ir saulėgrąža.
Jei laužo deginimas per vasaros saulėgrąžą britams dar yra žinomas, tai kupoliavimas jiems iš viso negirdėtas, nors žolynų ir pievų, tiek apie Binstead'ą, tiek visoje DB apstu! Tiesa, šioje šalyje yra viena labai savita vidurvasario tradicija. Tai - atvirų pievų ar laukų dienos, kas gali būti britiška kupoliavimo atmaina...

GB: OPEN DAYS OF MEADOWS    
From the end of June, you are invited to visit 
privat meadows, fields or gardens in GB, that usually are closed for visitors.  
Of course, you are interested if you see an invitation to Open Days of the private lavender fields! Such an event, organised from 1st to 2nd as well as from 8th to 9th July 2017, was discovered in the county of Hampshire. You neeed to pay 
only £ 4 (under 12's free) and could take a stroll around the lavender and wild flower fields. It was offered mini tours and talks on lavender, tractor and trailer rides around the farm as well as photographic workshops and meeting with an aromatherapist. You could bay English Sparkling Wine and willowcrafts.  
These Open Days - more or less - remember to the ancient tradition of the Summer Solstice celebration - walks through the meadows picking herbs and plants (Lithuanian: 'Kupoliavimas'). The Summer Solstice celebration is a festival of nature and in the nature. The British are practical people, so they commercialized what they could in the nature too.  
But there are enough free wild flower meadows in the GB, especially in the county of Hampshire, where once the Lithuanian Community, founded in GB, had a country house. There were celebrated all Lithuanian festivals, as well as the Summer Solstice, that has even three names - Kupolinės, Rasos and Joninės - in Lithuania.

GB: OFFENE TAGE DER WIESEN  
Ab Ende Juni wird eingeladen, private Wiesen, 
Felder sowie Gärten in GB zu besuchen, die sonst geschlossen sind. Man wird natürlich neugierig, wenn man eine Einladung zu offenen Tagen der privaten Lavendelfelder findet! So eine Veranstaltung, organisiert am 1.-2. sowie am 8.-9. Juli, wurde in der Grafschaft Hampshire endeckt.  
Man brauchte nur £ 4 zu bezahlen (Eintritt für Kinder unter 12 frei) und konnte nicht nur durch Lavendelfelder, sondern auch durch natürliche Wiesen bummeln. Es wurden auch Führungen, Gespräche über Lavendel, Umfahrten der Felder sowie des Farmterritoriums mit einem Traktor oder einem Motorrad angeboten. Zum Programm gehörten Workshops für Fotographie sowie Atomatherapie. Man konnte regionale Weine und handgemachte Souvenirs kaufen.  
Ähnlich werden auch andere offene Tage der Felder, Wiesen oder Gärten in GB veranstaltet. Diese Feste - mehr oder weniger - erinnern an die alte Tradition der Sommersonnwendfeier - Spaziergänge durch die Wiesen, um Kräuter- und Pflanzen zu sammeln (Litauisch "Kupoliavimas"). Die Sommersonnwendfeier ist ein Fest der Natur und in der Natur, und die praktischen Briten haben das kommerzialisiert, was es möglich in der Natur ist. Aber es gibt noch genug freie Wiesen in GB, besonders in der Grafschaft Hampshire, wo einst litauische Gemeinschaft, gegründet in GB, ein Gut besitzte. Dort wurden alle litauischen Feste gefeiert, darunter auch Sommersonnwendfeier, die in Litauen sogar dreifach genannt wird: Kupolinės, Rasos und Joninės.  

DB: ATVIRŲ PIEVŲ DIENOS
Nuo birželio pabaigos DB yra kviečiama apsilankyti laukuose ir pievose, didžiuliuose privačiuose soduose, kurie kitu metu yra uždari. Argi gali nesudominti kvietimas apsilankyti privataus ūkininko Levandų laukuose, kurie driekiasi Hampšyro grafystėje? Jie buvo atverti visiems liepos 1-2 d.d. ir liepos 8-9 d.d. Tiesa, reikėjo susimokėti 4 svarus (vaikaims iki 12 metų - nemokamai) ir buvo galima vaikščioti tiek po levandų laukus, tiek po natūralias pievas. Programoje buvo numatyta ir ekskursija, ir pokalbiai apie levandas, ir pasivažinėjimas traktoriumi ar dviračiu po ūkio (fermos) teritoriją, ir fotosesijos, ir susitikimas su aromaterapijos specialistu. Buvo galima nusipirkti vietinės gamybos vyno bei rankdarbių. Panašios yra ir kitos atvirų pievų, laukų ar sodų dienos. Tam tikra prasme, jos yra tolimas kupoliavimo aidas, gal tik su britišku niuansu - juk britai yra praktiški žmonės! Vasaros saulėgrąžos šventė yra gamtos šventė ir šventė gamtoje. Kol kas natūralių pievų DB yra apstu ir nemokamai, ypač Hampšyro grafystėje, kur DB lietuvių bendruomenė buvo įsigijusi sodybą. Joje ir švęsdavo lietuviškas šventes, tarp jų - vasaros saulėgrąžą, kuri Lietuvoje turi net tris pavadinimus - Kupolinės, Rasos, Joninės.

RASOS, KUPOLINĖS OR JONINĖS?   
In the past, the Lithuanian celebration 
 of the Summer Solstice was called Rasos. The name derived from rasa - the glistening droplets of dew that cover meadows in the night. It was believed that washing your face with dew could rejuvenate the skin. It was also used to water vegetable gardens as it was thought to make the soil more fertile. 
One part of this special night was called Kupolės because in the evening people traditionally picked medicinal herbs. This activity called kupoliavimas. It was believed that on this night medicinal herbs acquire their healing properties. They would later be used to brew teas or placed near the roof. St. John’s wort picked on Joninės was said to cure 99 kinds of illness.  
After Christianisation, the celebrations were associated with the birth of St. John the Baptist, and named Joninės (from Jonas – the Lithuanian equivalent of John).  
Actually, now the traditional Lithuanian summer solstice celebration consist of three parts. The celebration starts with the rituals, connected with herbs and plants (the part of Kupole), that folows the part of Rasos, connected with water (dew, rivers, seas etc.), and it finishes with congratulations of Jonas (John) and Janina (Johanna) of their name day (Joninės). 
In Lithuania, the celebration of the Summer Solstice is called Rasos, as well as Kupolinės, but most of all - Joninės. Lithuanian people living in GB this celebration call only Joninės. 

RASOS, KUPOLINĖS ODER JONINĖS?  
In der Vergangenheit hat man litauische 
Sommersonnwendfeier "Rasos" genannt. Der Name stammt vom Wort "Rasa", was "ein Tau" bedeutet. Man glaubte, dass der Tau in der kürzesten Sommernacht magisch wirkt. Er kann die Haut verjüngen (wenn man sich damit sein Gesicht wäscht) oder die Erde für Pflanzen fruchtbarer machen (wenn man es mit Tauwasser gießt). Zur litauischen Sommersonnwendfeier gehört traditionell auch Kräutersammeln, "Kupoliavimas" genannt, vowon später das Wort "Kupolės" entstand. Man glaubte, dass Kräuter sowie Pflanzen in dieser Nacht magische oder heilende Eigenschaften erwerben. In der Vergangenheit wurden nur Heilpflanzen gesammelt, besonders Johanniskraut, die gegen 99 Krankheiten helfen sollte. 
Nach der Einführung des Christentums wurde die Sommersonnwendfeier mit der Geburt des Hl. Johannes des Täufers verbunden und Joninės genannt (von Jonas, litauischem Äquivalent von Johannes). 
Heute besteht die traditionelle litauische Sommersonnwendfeier eigentlich aus drei Hauptteilen. Die Feier beginnt mit den Ritualen, die mit Kräutern sowie Pflanzen verbunden sind (also, mit Kupole). Dann folgen Rasos, wo Wasser (Tau, Flüsse etc.)  eine wichtige Rolle spielt. Und zum Schluss gratuliert man Jonas (Johann) und Janina (Johanna) zum Namenstag (Joninės). Heute wird die Sommersonnwendfeier in Litauen sowohl Rasos, als auch Kupolinės, aber meistens - Joninės genannt. 
Die litauische Sommersonnwendfeier, organisiert von der litauischen Gemeinschaft in GB, wird nur Joninės genannt.  

RASOS, KUPOLINĖS AR JONINĖS?
Senovėje ši šventė Lietuvoje buvo vadinama Rasomis, nuo "rasos", kuri trumpiausią metų naktį padengia pievas. Buvo tikima, kad nusiprausus rasa nuo rugių - atjaunėjama! Jei rasa pašlakstoma ligonio lova, jis pasveiksta, jei augalus - jie geriau auga.
Vienas svarbiausių vidurvasario šventės dalių buvo Kupolės. Išvakarėse tradiciškai buvo renkamos vaistažolės tikint, kad būtent šią naktį jos įgija gydomųjų galių. Vaistažolės buvo naudojamos arbatai arba pakabinamos pastogėje. Sakoma, kad jonažolė, surinkta per Jonines, gydo nuo 99 ligų.
Po krikščionybės įvedimo Lietuvoje šventė pavadinta Joninėmis. Jei pažvelgsime į tradicinę vasaros saulėgrąžos šventę Lietuvoje atidžiau, tai ji susideda tarsi iš trijų dalių. Šventė prasideda nuo ritualų, susijusių su augalais (Kupolės dalis), toliau seka Rasų dalis, susijusi su vandeniu (rasa, upės, ežerai etc.), ir baigiasi Jonų ir Janinų sveikinimais (Joninės). Lietuvoje šventė vadinama ir Rasomis, ir Kupolinėmis, bet dažniausiai - Joninėmis. Lietuviai, gyvenantys D. Britanijoje, vidurvasario šventę vadina tik Joninėmis.

LITHUANIAN  
 COMMUNITY IN GB AND ITS FESTIVALS   
  Lithuanian Community, founded in GB in 1932, was very active. In 1955, it purchased a country house of 19th cent in Headley. 
It was nestled in 55 acres of beautiful Hampshire countryside. The county is known for its mosaic of grassland, hills, woods and old oaks (an oak is Lithuanian National Tree). It looks like countryside of Lithuania. Because of that Lithuanian expatriates bought the Headley Park Hotel 'Sodyba' in Headley. It was called 'The Small Lithuania' and serves as a country retreat for Lithuanians living in GB. There were a hotel with a restaurant, a camping site and like. It was the hub of all cultural activities of Lithuanian Community. There were organized all Lithuanian festivals, including Jonines (celebration of the Summer Solstice). After the country house was renounced because of financial problems a few years ago, Jonines were organized in the cities. The biggest Jonines ('Didžiosios Joninės') - with a lot of beer and many music groups from Lithuania - took place in one of the Gardens in London (Hainault Forest Country).* In 2017, there didn't take place the Lithuanian midsummer festival in London because of the terrorist acts. The smaller Jonines were organized in the other British cities with beer and concerts of the music groups from Lithuania or with Lithuanian musicians living in GB. 
Many Lithuanians living in GB or visiting it, could celebrate private Jonines. The Lithuanian Summer Solstice is celebrated with many rituals. You can enjoy it - more or less - during Jonines, organized in Lithuania, but hardly - in GB.  
When you celebrate privately you can choose the rituals you like. If you want to celebrate the Lithuanian Summer Solstice you need many herbs, plants, meadows and water. You can have it enough next to Headley (Hampshire), where once was Lithuanian country house. This is really an ideal place to celebrate the Lithuanian Summer Solstice in GB!

GEMEINSCHAFT IN GB UND IHRE FESTE    
Litauische Gemeinschaft wurde in Großbritannien 1932 gegründet und war so aktiv, dass sie 1955 ein Stück von etwa 20 Hektar mit einem Gebäude aus dem 19.Jh. in Headley, in der Grafschaft Hampshire gekauft hat. Lange Zeit wurde dieses Stück Englands "Kleines Litauen" genannt. Die Landschaft von Hampshire erinnert tatsächlich an Litauen. Ringsum sieht man Hügel, viele Wälder, voll von alten Bäumen und mächtigen Eichen, die in Litauen so beliebt sind (Eiche ist litauischer Nationalbaum). Eben wegen der Landschaft hat hier die litauische Gemeinschaft von GB das Gut gekauft. Es hatte den Namen Headley Park Hotel "Sodyba". Da gab es ein Hotel mit Restaurant sowie eine Bibliothek. Dort wurden alle litauischen Feste gefeiert, darunter die Sommersonnwendfeier, für die "Sodyba" richtig ideal war. 
Als man auf das Gut wegen finanzieller Probleme vor ein  
paar Jahren verzichtet hatte, wurde die Sommersonnwendfeier (Joninės) in den Städten organisiert. Das größte Fest, "Didžiosios Joninės" ("das große Johannesfest") genannt, fand ein paar Jahre im Park "Hainault Forest Country" von London mit viel Bier und vielen Musikgruppen aus Litauen statt.* Wegen der Terrorakte in London gab es hier keine litauische Sommersonnwendfeier 2017. Es wurden kleinere Feste in anderen Städten organisiert, wobei Bier und Konzerte mit den Musikanten aus Litauen oder den musizierenden Litauern in GB dominierten. 
Wenn man in GB wohnt oder hier zu Besuch ist, kann man Jonines auch privat feiern. Litauische Sommersonnwendfeier hat viele Rituale, an denen man sich in den Festen, organisiert in Litauen, mehr oder weniger hält, während in GB - kaum. Wenn man privat feiert, kann man die Rituale nach seinem Wunsch wählen. 
Für das litauische Fest Jonines braucht man viele Kräuter, Pflanzen, Wiesen und Wasser, was man mehr als genug in der Nähe von Headley (Hampshire) findet, wo einst das litauische Gut war. Das ist wirklich ein idealer Platz für die litauische Sommersonnwendfeier in GB!

DB LIETUVIŲ BENDRUOMENĖ IR JOS ŠVENTĖS  
DB Lietuvių bendruomenė, įkurta 1932 m., buvo tokia aktyvi, kad 1955 m. nusipirko sodybą Headley, Hampšyro grafystėje,
nes jos peizažas labai priminė Lietuvą. Sodyba vadinta "Mažoji Lietuva", oficialiai - Headley Park Hotel "Sodyba". Čia buvo viešbutis, biblioteka, kavinė, čia lietuviai švęsdavo savo šventes, tarp jų ir Jonines, kurioms aplinka buvo tiesiog ideali.
Kai dėl finansinių problemų sodybos buvo atsisakyta, Joninės persikėlė į miestus. Garsiausios buvo "Didžiosios Joninės", kelis metus iš eilės vykusios Londone. Lietuviams, Didžiosios Lietuvos kunigaikštystės palikuonims, reikėjo Didžiųjų Joninių ir ne bet kur, o Londone. Ir ne bet kokių, o su trenksmu! Didžiosios Joninės, 2015 m. sukėlusios nemažai problemų Londono policijai, 2016 vyko civilizuotai. Renginyje, kuris vyko viename Londono parkų (Hainault Forest Country), koncertavo atlikėjai iš Lietuvos, vyko mugė.*
 Galbūt dėl Londoną sukrėtusių teroro aktų, o gal dėl kitų priežasčių 2017 m. Didžiųjų Joninių Londone nebuvo. Įvairiuose regionuose vyko keletas mažesnių Joninių renginių, kuriuose dominavo alus ir koncertas su muzikantais iš Lietuvos arba su
D. Britanijoje muzikuojančiais lietuviais.
Bet turbūt nemažai lietuvių, gyvenančių ar turistaujančių DB, šventė Jonines ir privačiai. Lietuviškos Joninės turi daug ritualų, kurių daugiau ar mažiau laikomasi oficialiai organizuojamose šventėse Lietuvoje, ir minimaliai - D. Britanijoje. Tuo tarpu švenčiant jas privačiai kiekvienas gali atsirinkti pagal savo skonį. Svarbu yra vieta, nes lietuviškajai saulėgrąžos šventei reikia daug žolynų, pievų ir vandens - viso to daugiau negu pakankamai yra aplink buvusią lietuvišką sodybą Headley, Hampšyro grafystėje. Taigi, niekur kitur geriau neatšvęsi Joninių D. Britanijoje, nei Headley!

On Friday, 23rd June 2017, you had a really nice weather next to Headley. It wasn't sunny but it was fresh and warm. It couldn't be better if you would like to celebrate in the nature! 
The Lithuanian Summer Solstice has many rituals. When you celebrate privately you can choose the rituals you like. But something magic you need, isn't it? The numbers 3 and 9 are called magical. Let's try, is it true?

with nine (3×3=9) magic rituals was  so celebrated next to Headley (Hampshire):

Litauische Sommersonnwendfeier wird in der kürzesten Nacht 
 des Jahres - vom 23. zum 24. Juni - gefeiert.  
Am 23. Juni 2017 - es war Freitag - hatte man ein angenehmes Wetter in Hampshire. Es gab keine Sonne, aber das Wetter war warm und frisch. Besseres kann man sich nicht wünschen, wenn man ins Grüne fährt!  
Litauische Sommersonnwendfeier hat viele Rituale, die man nach seinem Wunsch wählt, wenn man privat feiert. Etwas Magie braucht man, oder? Man sagt, dass die Zahlen 3 und 9 magisch sind. Wollen wir ausprobieren, ob es stimmt! 
Litauische dreiteilige SONNENWENDEFEIER  
mit neun (3×3=9) magischen Ritualen wurde in der Nähe von Headley (Hampshire) folgend gefeiert:

 das die Natur von Hampshire selbst aus Bäumen und Pflanzen konstruiert hat. In Litauen wird dazu ein Sondertor gemacht, geschmückt mit Pflanzen und Blumen.

Floral wreath, a traditional accessory and symbol of the sun

KUPOLIAVIMAS,  
it's visiting of nine meadows and searching for nine 
wildflowers for a bunch (kupole). If it is true, that the earth laughs in flowers, then the earth laughs in midsummer mostly. In the past, the people traditionally picked medicinal herbs but now, they seach just for herbs and flowers.  
If you have special summer wishes (not more then 9!) you can it connected with the plants that you picked strolling around the meadows. So, you will have a magical bunch (kupole) with 9 summer dreams of 9 flowers, picked on 9 meadows!  
At the same time, you need to pick herbs and flowers for a floral wreath. It is said that a floral wreath is a symbol of the sun because it reminds the sun which beams give warmth and life. You must make a wreath from nine different herbs and flowers before midnight. It's not only a traditional decorative accessory of the Summer Solstice celebration, but also a mystical charm to draw fortune and maybe, the attention of your true love. 
 You need to make more floral wreaths, that will be used for the magic rituals later in the shortest night of the year. 

KUPOLIAVIMAS, 
d. h., Suche nach nach neun Wiesenblumen für einen Strauß (Kupole) beim Spaziergang durch neun Wiesen. Wenn es stimmt, dass die Erde lacht, indem sie blüht, dann lacht die Erde den ganzen Hochsommer.  
In den alten Zeiten suchte man nach Heilkräutern, nun aber - einfach nach Blühten. Dabei kann man 9 Sommerwünsche ausdenken und bei Spaziegang durch Wiesen jedem Wunsch eine entsprechende Blüte finden. So hat man einen magischen Strauß von 9 Sommerträumen aus 9 Blüten, gesammelt auf 9 Wiesen!  
Beim Spaziergang sucht man auch nach Kräutern und Blumen zum Flechten der Kränze, die die Symbole des Sonnenkreises sind. Diese Kränze, geflochten auch aus 9 Pflanzen, sind die wichtigsten Dekor- und Magieelemente der Sommersonnwendfeier. Man schmückt sich damit und verwendet es später bei den Zauberritualen. Man sagt, die Blumenkränze können Glück und (vielleicht) sogar die Aufmerksamkeit der echten Liebe lenken. So sollte man eigentlich mehrere Kränze für diese magische Nacht flechten...

juokiasi, kai apsipila žiedais, tai tuomet ji juokiasi visą vidurvasarį!
  Senovėje kupoliauta ieškant vaistinių augalų, dabar - tiesiog žiedų. Sako, sugalvok 9 vasaros norus ir eidamas per 9 pievas kiekvienam norui surask tinkantį žiedą. Taip turėsi magišką 9 vasaros svajonių puokštę iš 9 žiedų, surinktų 9 pievose!
Kartu reikia prisirinkti pakankamai žolynų, iš kurių pinami vainikai, saulės judėjimo rato simboliai. Šie vainikai, supinti taip pat iš 9 žolynų ir žiedų, yra svarbiausi šventės dekoro  ir magijos elementai. Jais ne tik pasipuošiama. Sako, jie gali pritraukti  sėkmę ir tikrąją meilę.
Tad pravartu nusipinti jų daugiau...

Upelis su 9 medžiais * A stream with 9 trees next to it

VISITING OF 9 TREES  
 It is said, that every tree supplies you   
with different summer energy. If you have a special summer wish or dream, you can try to guess, when it will fulfil, while you throw a floral wreath up into the tree you visit. The faster your wreath hangs on the tree, the faster your dream will be fulfiled. If your first throw wasn't successful, you can try once again by visiting another eight trees.   
In midsummer, you can enjoy fragrant jasmines especially!   
But this time, there were many oaks and flowering trees on the way. By a stream, there were discovered even 9 different trees side by side, including an oak... Into this oak were throwed up the first floral wreaths. Some wreaths were stuck up in the branches, while the others came down into the stream...   

BESUCH DER 9 BÄUME  
Man sagt, dass jeder Baum mit unterschiedlicher Sommerenergie versorgen kann. Wenn man einen besonderen Sommertraum hat, kann man versuchen zu raten, indem man einen geflochtenen Blumenkranz auf einen Baum wirft. Je schneller der Kranz am Baum hängen bleibt, desto schneller geht der Traum in Erfüllung. Wenn es beim ersten Wurf nicht gelingt, kann man es beim Besuch weiterer acht Bäume probieren.   
Im Hochsommer locken duftende Jasmine besonders, aber diesmal gab es viele Eichen sowie unglaublich üppig blühende Bäume unterwegs. An einem Bach wurden sogar 9 Bäume nebeneinander entdeckt, darunter die Eiche, auf die die ersten geflochtenen Blumenkränze geworfen wurden. Die einen blieben hängen, die anderen fielen runter ins Bach...   

9 MEDŽIŲ LANKYMAS:
Sakoma, kad kiekvienas medis suteikia skirtingos
 vasaros energijos. Jeigu turite ypatingą vasaros norą,
bandykite burti mesdami vainiką ant medžių. Jei prie pirmo medžio nepavyks, bandykite prie likusių aštuonių. Kuo greičiau vainikas užsikabins, tuo greičiau noras išsipildys (arba ne)...
Per Jonines ypač traukia kvepiantys jazminai. Bet šį kartą pakeliui buvo daug ąžuolų ir visai nežinomų žydinčių medžių. O vienoje vietoje prie upelio augo net 9 skirtingi medžiai, tarp jų ir ąžuolas. Ant jo ir švystelėjome pirmuosius vainikus su 9 vasaros norais - vieni užsikabino, kiti nukrito į sraunų upelio vandenį...

THE SUNSET   
is a very important moment, because after that,   
the dew falls. When the last sun beams disappear, it is lit a midsummer fire symbolizing the Sun. The shortest night of the year must be light! It isn't clear, weather it's allowed to light the fire in the woods around Headley. So, it was lit a torch, that was stuck into dewy grass of the stream side and kept burning all through the night until dawn.  
From it, you can burn the candles, stuck into  
 the floral wreath (known as symbols of the Sun too), that you then set afloat on a river or a lake. This ritual is connected with dreams too. If you have a special summer wish, you need to think about it setting the wreath on the water. The faster the current carries, the sooner the dream come true.  
The chosen stream was so fast, that the wreaths disappeared in the blink of an eye. Maybe, it was to fast, because it seems that the wreath could sink with all the dreams. But in this magical night, you still would have a chance, if you had searched for the fern blossom in the midnight. Who finds it realizes all the dreams!

DER SONNENUNTERGANG
ist ein sehr wichtiger Moment, denn danach fällt der Tau.   
Wenn die letzten Sonnenstrahlen verschwinden, wird ein Sonnwendfeuer (auch Sonnenfeuer genannt) entzündet. Die kürzeste Nacht des Jahres muss hell sein! Da man nicht sicher ist, ob das Sonnwendfeuer in den Wäldern um Headley entzündet werden darf, wird es durch eine Fackel ersetzt, die ins taufeuchte Gras am Bachufer gesteckt wird. Davon werden Kerzen angezündet, mit denen die Blumenkränze (auch Symbole der Sonne!) besteckt werden, die man zuerst auf hölzernen Sonderformen befestigt und dann auf Wasser schwimmen lässt. Dieses Ritual ist auch mit den Träumen verbunden. Wenn man einen besonderen Sommerwunsch hat, muss man daran denken, indem man den Kranz über das Wasser segeln lässt. Je schneller der Kranz vom Wasser getrieben wird, desto schneller geht  
der Traum in Erfüllung.  
Der von uns gewählte Strom war so stark, dass die Kränze  
im Nu verschwanden. Vielleicht sogar zu stark, denn die Kränze drohten mit allen Träumen zu versinken... Aber in dieser magischen Nacht hätte noch eine Chance gegeben: die Suche nach der Farnblühte in der Mitternacht. Wer die findet, verwirklicht bestimmt alle Träume!

SAULĖLYDIS

pievas užkloja rasa, kuriai pernai į pagalbą atėjo lietus...
Vos užgesta paskutinieji saulės spinduliai, paprastai uždegamas laužas. Jis tarsi atlieka saulės darbą: trumpiausia metų naktis turi būti šviesi! Nežinia, ar Headley galima kurti laužus, todėl uždegamas deglas, kuris įtvirtinamas rasotoje upės pakrantėje. Nuo jo galima pridegti žvakes, skirtas vainikams, kurie taip pat yra saulės (rato) simboliai. Jie uždedami ant specialiaus įtvirtinimo ir su degančiomis žvakėmis paleidžiami į vandenį.
Šis vienas gražiausių šventės ritualų- irgi susijęs su svajonėmis. Jei turite kokį nors vasaros norą, galvokite apie jį leisdami vainiką į vandenį - kuo greičiau jį nuneš vandens srovė, tuo greičiau išsipildys noras. Tad ieškokite kuo sraunesnio vandens! Tikrai neatsitiktinai apsistojome prie putojančio upeliūkščio. Paleisti vainikai kaip mat dingo iš akių. Jau galvojome, kad srovė nuskandins ir vainikus, ir svajones. Bet šią magišką naktį būtų likęs dar vienas šansas - paparčio žiedas! Jei jau jį randi,
tikrai viskas išsipildo!

MIDNIGHT   
You have many opportunities to dream   
in the shortest night of the year. If it doesn't succeed with the wreaths, in the midnight, you could search for the magic fern blossom, that brings good luck if you find it. This searching is a real challenge in the dewy woods of Hampshire. In Lithuania, the ferns reach hardly knees, while there they are shoulder-high. And there are so many blossoms among the ferns - what is the right one? It is said, if all the dreams will come true, it was found the right one. So, let's wait! Anyway, it was a really 'bath' among dewy ferns. Sad, that the dew becomes magical  
only before sunrise...   

MITTERNACHT  
Die kürzeste Nacht des Hochsommers gibt  
viele Chancen zu träumen. Wenn es mit den Blumenkränzen nicht gelingt, bleibt noch die Suche nach der Farnblühte in der Mitternacht, die alle Träume verwirklicht, wenn es gefunden wird. Diese Suche ist aber eine richtige Herausforderung in den taufeuchten Wäldern der Grafschaft Hampshire. Die Farne in Litauen reichen kaum bis an die Knie, während die hier beinahe menschenhoch sind. Und man entdeckt so viele Blühten darunter - welche ist die richtige? Man sagt, wenn alle Träume in Erfüllung gehen, wurde die richtige gefunden. Also, lasst uns warten! Auf jeden Fall, es wurde richtig gut unter den taufeuchten Farnen "gebadet". Schade, dass der Tau nur  
vor dem Sonnenaufgang magisch wird...   

VIDURNAKTIS
Vidurvasario naktis duoda daug šansų svajonėms -
jei nepavyksta su vainikais medžiuose ar upėse, lieka dar paparčo žiedas, kurio ieškoma vidurnaktį. Paparčio žiedo ieškojimas rasotuose Hamšyro grafystės miškuose yra tikras iššūkis! Lietuvoje paparčiai nesiekia kelių, o čia kur pažvelgsi - vos ne žmogaus ūgio papartynai (ypač ąžuolynuose). Ir visi pilni kažkokių žiedų - kaip suprasti, kuris jų tikrasis? Sako, jei po kiek laiko visi norai išsipildys, vadinasi pavyko rasti tikrąjį! Taigi, lauksime rezultatų! Bet kuriuo atveju, pavyksta labai gerai "išsimaydyti" papartyno rasoje. Gaila, kad ji stebuklingų galių įgija tik prieš saulėtekį...

Diesmal wurde die Sonne mit Wolken bedeckt,   
und nur ein paar Strahlen durchdrangen die Wolkenschleier. Trotzdem darf man Fackeln und Sonnenfeuer löschen, denn es dämmert Johannismorgen!

 saulę - pro debesų šydą prasmuko tik keli jos spinduliai. Bet vis tiek jau galima gesinti deglus ar baigiančius rusenti laužus - aušta Joninės!

Šiame gėrime tarsi telpa visos vidurvasario šventės dalys, susijusios su kupoliavimu, vandeniu, ugnimi ir Joninėmis. Tai - trauktinė (taigi, vanduo), pagamintas iš 27 (3x9!) įvairių augalų žiedų, lapų, vaisių ir šaknų (taigi,
reikėjo kupoliauti) ir veikiantis kaip ugnis (35°!).  
Kas gali tikti geriau vasaros saulėgrąžos tostui?

MAGICAL FORMULA OF MIDSUMMER  
So, you can dream midsummer dreams at the different time. In GB, 
there's celebrated the beginning of the Summer Solstice, while the people visit Stonehenge to watch the summer solstice sunrise on 21th June, on the first longest days of the year.  
Sometimes, in GB you could discoverd celebration of the Summer Solstice, 
that takes place at the same time as it's in Continental Europe. There, it's celebrated the last shortest night of the year from the 23rd to the 24th June in many countries - in Lithuania too, where the Summer Solstice has three names (Rasos, Kupolinės, Joninės). Actually, it consists of three similar parts, conducted by the sun so to speak. Could it be otherwise, when the sun is at its zenith? 
The celebration starts with the rituals, connected with the herbs (Kupole) before the sunset. Then, between the sunset and sunrise, it folows the part of Rasos, connected with dew and water (rivers, seas) and accompanied by the symbols of the sun - bonfire, wreaths (with candles or without it) and fern blossom (according to a legend, the ferns come into bloom in the midnight for a very short moment only lighting as a small flickering flame). The celebration finishes with the name day (Joninės) after the sunrise. 
Actually, it's nature festival as well as a festival in the nature, so you can celebrate it according the Lithuanian traditions in the other countries too. Do the Lithuanian midsummer magic work there? Why not? In all the countries of the world, where the Summer Solstice is celebrated, there's believed that the days and nights of the midsummer are something special and even magical. So, let's try! Anyway, the time spent in the fresh air is time well spent. Don't miss the chance! The effect could be magical!

DIE ZAUBERFORMEL DES HOCHSOMMERS  
Also, die Träume des Hochsommers können in unterschiedlicher Zeit 
geträumt werden. In GB geht man am Abend vom 20. Juni nach Stonehenge, um die aufgehende Sonne am 21. Juni zu beobachten und den ersten längsten Tag des Hochsommers zu begrüßen. 
Selten, aber es st es möglich, in GB eine Sommersonnwendfeier zu entdecken, die in derselben Zeit gefeiert wird wie in vielen Ländern vom Kontinentaleuropa, darunter auch in Litauen. Man feiert da die letzte kürzeste Nacht des Hochsommers vom 23. zum 24. Juni. In Litauen hat dieses Fest sogar drei Namen - Kupolinės, Rasos oder Joninės. Das Fest selbst besteht eigentlich aus drei Hauptteilen und wird sozusagen von der Sonne dirigiert. Kann es, also, anders sein, wenn die Sonne im Zenit steht? Die Feier beginnt mit der Sammlung der Kräuter, genannt auf Litauisch Kupoliavimas, das dauert, bevor die Sonne untergeht. Dann (zwischen dem Sonnenuntergang und -aufgang) folgen Rasos, verbunden mit Wasser (Tau, Flüsse, Seen) und begleitet von Sonnensymbolen - Sonnwendfeuer (auch Sonnenfeuer genannt), Kränzen (mit und ohne Kerzen) und Farnblühte (die laut einer Legende nur für einen Augenblick in der Mitternacht aufblüht, indem sie wie eine kleine Flamme aufleuchtet). Und nach dem Sonnenaufgang gratuliert man Jonas (Johann) und Janina (Johanna) zum Namenstag (Joninės). 
 Also, es ist ein Naturfest und ein Fest in der Natur, so kann man nach litauischen Traditionen auch in anderen Ländern feiern. Wirkt dort aber die Magie der litauischen Ritualen? Warum denn nicht? In allen Ländern, wo die Sonnenwende gefeiert wird, glaubt man, dass Tage und Nächte des Mittsommers etwas Besonderes und Magisches sind. So, lasst uns versuchen! Auf jeden Fall, die Zeit, verbracht in der frischen Luft, besonders im Hochsommer, ist sinnvoll! Verpasst die Chance nicht! Das kann Wunder wirken!  
ALSO, SCHÖNEN HOCHSOMMER!
   
VIDURVASARIO MAGIJOS FORMULĖ   
Taigi, vidurvasario sapnai gali būti sapnuojami skirtingu metu. 
Britai renkasi į Stounhenžą birželio 20-osios vakarą ir pasitinka saulę birželio 21-ąją, taip pasveikindami pirmąją ilgiausią vidurvasario ir metų dieną. 
Retai, bet ir DB galima aptikti saulėgrąžos šventę, švenčiamą tuo pat metu, 
kaip ir kontinentinėje Europoje, kuri - kaip ir Lietuva - vidurvasarį švenčia iš birželio 23 į 24, t. y., paskutinę trumpiausią vidurvasario (ir metų) naktį. Lietuvoje ši šventė turi tris pavadinimus - Kupolinės, Rasos arba Joninės, o ir ji pati susideda iš trijų dalių - kupoliavimo, vandens ritualų (susijusių su rasa, upėmis, ežerais) ir vardadienio. Visai šventei diriguoja saulė, esanti savo zenite - o kaipgi kitaip? Kupoliaujama iki saulei nusileidžiant. Tarp saulėlydžio ir saulėtekio ima veikti rasos (vandens) magija, lydima saulės simbolių - laužo liepsnos, vainikų (su žvakutėmis ar be jų) ir paparčio žiedo (kuris, sako, pražysta akimirką sušvisdamas tarsi liepsnelė). Patekėjus saulei prasideda Jonų ir Janinų vardadienis.  
Taigi, tai - gamtos šventė ir šventė gamtoje, tad ir kitose šalyse galima švęsti pagal lietuviškas tradicijas. Bet ar ten veikia lietuviškų vidurvasario burtų magija? O kodėl ne? Juk vasaros saulėgrąža daugelyje pasaulio kultūrų švenčiama tikint, kad vidurvasario dienos ir naktys yra stebuklingos. Tad bandykite! Bet kuriuo atveju laikas, praleistas gryname ore ir vidurvasario gamtoje, tolygus magijai!
